Museum Het Schip is housed in an imaginative 1919 public housing complex designed by architect Michel de Klerk for the Eigen Haard corporation. Nicknamed "Het Schip" (The Ship) for its striking shape, the building is a landmark of the Amsterdam School architectural movement.
Behind the wave-shaped facade of the famous working-class housing complex De Dageraad, you will find information about the art and architecture of the Amsterdam School.
From 11 October 2024 through 27 July 2025, Museum Het Schip will present an exhibition on garden cities and garden villages based on the garden city idea.
The Amsterdam School: it is not a school with students and its traces cannot only be found in Amsterdam. What does the term mean?
