Museum Het Schip has published a book exploring the parallels between Antoni Gaudí and the artists of the Amsterdam School. With contributions from both Catalan and Dutch experts, the publication offers a fresh perspective on Gaudí as an architect and artist, while also placing the Amsterdam School in a new conceptual light.
The imaginative and fantastical creations of Gaudí and the Amsterdam School continue to captivate audiences. Though the architects never met, they were shaped by the same era, seeking beauty and individuality in a time increasingly defined by functionality and impersonality.
Central to their work is a shared reverence for nature and its organic forms, a dedication to craftsmanship, and the use of traditional materials. Yet, they also embraced modernity, incorporating innovative techniques and production methods into their designs.
This book offers valuable insight into both the similarities and distinctions in the philosophies and works of Gaudí and the Amsterdam School architects. It features expert essays by Spanish and Dutch scholars, making it a rich resource for anyone interested in early modern architecture and design.
