This event will include presentations of best practices from several housing associations across Europe, results from an investigation project about refugees housing, and how successful integration strategies may be promoted and disseminated.  A discussion and Q&A with the audience will follow.

After the first part, we provide you with the chance of a bus tour to Amsterdam East. During the field visit, you will be informed on how status holders and refugees are welcomed in this part of the city. You will be transported from the conference location (Museum Het Schip) to there by bus. After the presentations, we offer you a drink. BOOST Ringdijk is a meeting place in Amsterdam East where local residents and refugees meet and exchange and jointly organise direct integration.  More than 100 volunteers participate in a varied program with language lessons, PC and bikelessons, ‘meat in east’ and dialogue evenings.

IUT, the “International Union of Tenants,” is a Non Governmental Organisation founded in 1926 in Zürich, Switzerland with the purpose of safeguarding the interests of tenants. IUT is a politically independent and entirely financed through membership fees.

Today, IUT has 66 member associations in 45 countries in all regions of the world. The IUT head office is in Stockholm, the EU office in Brussels.

 The objectives and activities of IUT include:

• Co-operation between tenants through sharing information and expertise
• Aiming to realise the right of everyone to enjoy good housing, which includes fair and affordable rents and a safe and sound healthy residential environment
• Tenant and residential democracy and a right to participation in housing costs and housing environment
• No discrimination
• Secure tenure
• The right to organise

 IUT considers housing to be a fundamental right in every society. Housing, therefore, needs to be addressed locally, nationally, and internationally. Affordable and adequate housing is also one of the safeguards for peace and security and a fundamental pillar in all stable societies. The Tenants Charter is available in all major languages.
