Neighbourhood tour | Weg die muur!

The project Weg die muur! by artist Aimée Zito Lema can be seen from Friday, August 27 through Sunday, October 17 in Amsterdam's Spaarndammerbuurt and Houthaven. The route map is available for € 2 exclusively at Museum Het Schip. Click here for directions to the museum.

Aimée Zito Lema (1982) was born in Amsterdam and grew up in Buenos Aires. Earlier this year she attracted much admiration with the beautiful exhibition 'Here is where we meet', in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam.

Following the discovery of an archive on the Spaarndammerbuurt and Houthaven, Zito Lema devised a walking route along 41 windows in the Spaarndammerbuurt and Houthavens. The archive images, which she edited together with graphic designer Paul Gangloff, are interspersed with quotes from interviews with various residents. This route winds in a loop through the old Spaarndammerbuurt and the brand new Houthaven and begins and ends at Museum Het Schip, where Weg die muur! received a warm welcome.

The route leads past 41 addresses where the curtains designed by Aimée Zito Lema and Paul Gangloff can be seen. At these locations are QR codes that refer to interviews with residents, historical events or additional information about the building or place. You can read the texts back via the buttons below.
