Piet Kramer was one of the most important architects of the Amsterdam School. He was known as a vital and idiosyncratic artist with an unrestrained urge to create. Among his creativity are the hundreds of bridges that color the Amsterdam cityscape with their surprising architecture and rugged ironwork. He often worked with Hildo Krop, the city sculptor. What is special is how Kramer and Krop were given the space to - on behalf of the municipality - enrich these 'public works' with their highly personal artistic expressions. Because they are rich, these bridges ": rich in virtuoso forging and masonry and rich in images, full of lyricism and symbolism.
This bike tour makes the bridges and buildings, which you have often seen, a true work of art.
