Courtyard house

oudschipklein The small house in the courtyard has been renovated.

On 2 July occupants of The Ship and housing  association ‘Eigen Haard’ celebrate the renovation of the association building within The Ship. Eigen Haard has been found in 1909 by workers of the factory Werkspoor in Amsterdam. Eigen Haard has carried out the renovation to celebrate its 100 year old existence.

The association building lies in the courtyard of The Ship, a monumental housing block designed by the Amsterdam School architect Michel de Klerk. For many years the association building did service as a meeting hall for the board of Eigen Haard. Later in time the little house accommodated a library and a card club.

The association building will be used by the conservator of the museum, so at the moment it is not possible to visit it.
